MW4 DMZ Operator Revive Cost and MIA Recovery
In MW4 DMZ, an Operator who dies in a deployment goes MIA (Missing in Action) and cannot deploy again until you pay DMZ Cash to recover them. The revive cost rises with the Operator’s Trait Points, so a high-level Operator is the most expensive to bring back. You keep their Traits but lose the gear they died with.
How MIA recovery works
These rules come from Activision’s Forward Operating Base guide:
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What happens when my Operator dies? | They become MIA and cannot deploy until recovered. |
| Where do I revive them? | The Operators station in the FOB, paid with DMZ Cash from your Bank. |
| How is the cost set? | By the Operator’s Trait Points: more Traits, higher cost. |
| What do I keep? | All of the Operator’s Traits and their Dog Tag progress. |
| What do I lose? | Their gear. Recovered Operators return without a loadout. |
| Is there a free option? | Dismiss the MIA Operator and start fresh with a new one. |
Activision has not published the exact DMZ Cash price per Trait Point, so we do not list numbers here. Check the price on the Operators station before you pay.
Recover or dismiss?
Recover an Operator when they have many Trait Points or are close to the 18 Trait Points needed for DMZ Operator Prestige, because Prestige Traits stay with that Operator for good. Dismiss when the Operator is new and the revive cost would take most of your Bank: a fresh Operator with a free starting kit can earn the cash back. Standard players have two Active Duty slots (Vault Edition owners three), so keep a cheap second Operator ready while you save up.
Vault Edition owners get Operator Rescue Beacons in the Vault Deployment Kit; see what each edition adds to DMZ.
Why players say the revive cost is too high
Since DMZ launched, players have argued about the price. One player quoted by GamingBible said they were broke after dying four times, especially when solo with random teammates against three-player squads. Others answered that a high-Trait Operator should not be cheap to revive. Activision has not announced a change to the cost as of 25 October 2026; we will update this page if a patch changes it.
Losing progress after a disconnect
The same complaints mention losing loot and progress when the server drops the match. Activision’s launch patch notes list “stability issues in DMZ, including disconnect issues” as addressed, and an earlier fix stopped Party Leaders from pulling teammates out of DMZ without consent, which had marked their Active Duty Operators as MIA. If your Operator went MIA after a disconnect, check the Operators station before you pay: report it to Activision Support with the match time.
How to avoid paying to revive
- Use the Survivalist Traits Free Revive (repairs your first Wound) and Die Hard (calls exfil automatically while in Last Stand), and the Warfighter Trait Possum (one Self Revive per match).
- Extract early when your bag is full. Progress on DMZ Orders only counts after a successful exfil.
- Avoid busy hot zones until you have plates and a team. The MW4 DMZ map shows threat levels for every area.
- Watch the UAV towers: an enemy-held tower shows you on the radar. See how DMZ UAV towers work.
